Zoning/Code Enforcement
Duties and Responsibilities of the Zoning Officer:
- Investigates complaints of violations of the Code of the Borough of Rockaway
- Reviews plans submitted to the Construction Department for adherence to Borough land use ordinances
- Issues permits for fences, signs, and sheds; approves change of use permits
- Ensures that property is used in accordance with zoning regulations

Permits
Zoning permit applications and forms can be found on the Applications and Forms page under Zoning.
Fence and Pool/Spa Requirements
Fences:
- Zoning permit required
- Maximum of six feet in height
- Not permitted within three feet of a street sideline
- Good side of fence should face adjacent properties
Pool/Spa:
Any pool or spa capable of holding 24” of water require:
- Zoning, building, electric, and plumbing permits required
- Pool must be located a minimum of ten feet from home, deck, or accessory structure
- Pool must be located a minimum of ten feet from rear or side yards
- Barrier requirements must meet the 2021 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code
