Health Department / Board of Health Notices

Novel Coronavirus

The Borough of Rockaway Board of Health continues to monitor the Novel (new) Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak and to work in partnership with the State Department of Health and Morris County Office of Health Management to ensure the community is prepared for any local impacts from this international health concern.

A coronavirus is a type of common virus that can infect your respiratory tract and can spread much like cold viruses. They tend to circulate in the fall and winter.

The United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is the lead Federal agency responsible for tracking the disease and coordinating national preparedness efforts. In NJ, preparedness activities are headed by the New Jersey Department of Health with assistance by the NJ Office of Emergency Management, county and local health departments.

Since there have been some cases of the virus identified in the United States, the CDC considers this a serious public health concern; however, the immediate health risk from the Covid-19 to the general American public is low at this time.

Because the situation is changing rapidly, we encourage you to carefully monitor the CDC and NJ Department of Health websites. Please use the links below to access these sites for the most recent news and information. Residents can also call the Novel Coronavirus Public Call Center (NPIES) at 1-800-222-1222 for information.
